This arrangement of Edward Elgar’s beautiful Nimrod movement from Enigma Variations was commissioned by Mason Upshaw for his Senior Recital at Kennesaw State University in 2018. The reference recording below was taken during the recital as well. This arrangement plays with the idea of rubato in the form of strict time, but changing meter to convey speeding up or slowing down of tempo, rather than keeping the meter consistent and changing tempo the conventional way.
